What is the ruling on shunning brothers who drink alcohol, who become more stubborn when advised, with the aim of pressuring them to abandon this sin?

Drinking alcohol is one of the gravest sins and the mother of all evils. Allah has cursed its drinker and everyone associated with it, due to the harms that result from it. You must continue to advise the alcohol drinker and pray for their guidance. As for shunning and refraining from speaking, it has conditions: it should only be resorted to when advice is futile, or if it is highly probable that shunning will deter the person shunned. However, if shunning will lead to persistence in sin, then they should not be shunned.
