What is the ruling on expelling semen by hand, and how can one avoid that, and what is meant by minor lust?

Masturbation is forbidden according to the majority of jurists. The way for one who is unable to marry to avoid it is fasting, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, guided. Also, cultivating awareness of Allah's constant watchfulness, staying away from everything that incites desire, lowering the gaze, engaging in sports, supplication, and occupying oneself with beneficial activities. As for minor sexual urge (al-shahwah al-sughra), it is the incomplete sexual urge that results in the emission of madhy (pre-seminal fluid). Major sexual urge (al-shahwah al-kubra) is the complete sexual urge that results in the forceful and pleasurable emission of maniy (semen).
