The answer

The story of the owners of the garden in Surat Al-Qalam is a parable set forth by Allah Almighty for the disbelievers of Quraish, to show that the material blessings and the sending of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) bestowed upon them are not due to their honor, but rather are a trial and a test. And just as Allah tested the owners of the garden who swore to harvest its fruits at night to deprive the poor, so Allah punished them by completely destroying their garden. Similarly, Allah punishes those who disbelieve in His blessings and do not fulfill the rights of the poor and needy. Just as the owners of the garden were deluded by Allah's blessings and were ungrateful, so too are the disbelievers deluded by their wealth and children. This worldly punishment (like the destruction of the garden) is part of the retribution, and the punishment of the Hereafter is greater and more severe for those who do not learn from it.
