If a Muslim intends to complete the recitation of the Qur’an before Ramadan, and then intends to memorize specific surahs, should he resume reading in Ramadan from where he left off, or should he start from the beginning of the Qur’an? And what is the ruling on one who starts from the beginning of the Qur’an?

Merely beginning to recite the Qur’an with the intention of completing a full recitation (khatmah) or changing the intention to memorizing surahs does not necessitate continuing with the original intention, nor does it compel a transition to the renewed intention.

It is permissible to continue reciting from where you previously stopped to complete the khatmah, or to start from the beginning of the Qur’an.

It is more preferable to complete the khatmah you started first.
