The Holy Qur’an displays a scientific miracle in its description of the seas, which science only recently discovered, including: 1. The Aquatic Barzakh: Scientists discovered in 1942 that saltwater seas differ in their properties and meet in one ocean without mixing, due to the presence of an aquatic barrier (barzakh) separating them. This is what the noble verse described: ﴿He has released the two seas, meeting [side by side]; Between them is a barrier [barzakh] so neither of them transgresses.﴾ 2. Darkness and Internal Waves: The verse ﴿Or [they are] like darknesses within an unfathomable sea which is covered by waves, above which are waves, above which are clouds – darknesses, some of them above others.﴾ describes the darkness of the deep seas, where darkness becomes intense at a depth of 200 meters, as well as the existence of internal waves at the edge of the deep dark part of the sea, which cannot be seen with the naked eye. 3. Fire Beneath the Sea: The Qur’an also alluded to the presence of fire beneath the sea in His (Allah’s) saying: ﴿And by the sea kept [fully] ablaze,﴾ and that these seas will erupt in fire on the Day of Resurrection.
