Is it permissible to recite the entire Qur’an for a living person who is unable to read?

There is no religious impediment to reciting the Quran over a sick person, whether they are able to recite or not. 'Aisha used to recite the Mu'awwidhat over the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, during the illness in which he passed away, and she would wipe his blessed hands over his body. This is based on what Al-Bukhari narrated from 'Aisha, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to blow over himself with the Mu'awwidhat during the illness in which he passed away. When his condition worsened, 'Aisha would blow and wipe with the Prophet's hand for its blessings. Al-Bahuti said: "There is no harm in dhikr (remembrance of Allah) and recitation in his presence, if relief is hoped for thereby, and recitation is preferable." The conclusion is that there is no religious impediment to reciting the Quran and dhikr over a sick person, hoping for blessings and alleviation for them.
