Are we in the era of coercive kingship, and will the next Islamic Caliphate be after the emergence of the Dajjal or before it?
The "biting kingship" (Al-Mulk Al-Adood) is one in which people experience injustice and oppression, and the "compulsory kingship" (Al-Mulk Al-Jabri) is characterized by tyranny and subjugation, as explained by Ibn Al-Atheer. As for the coming Islamic Caliphate, if what is meant is the appearance of the Mahdi, then it will occur before the Dajjal. However, this does not preclude the existence of a Caliphate before the Mahdi if Muslims adhere to their religion and hold fast to the rope of Allah, in fulfillment of His saying, may He be exalted: "Allah has promised those of you who have believed and done righteous deeds that He will surely grant them succession [to authority] upon the earth just as He granted it to those before them and that He will surely establish for them their religion which He has preferred for them and that He will surely substitute for them, after their fear, security."
