Is it sufficient to lower the gaze from images of women in an English language learning program, which features interactive and pronunciation correction functions, to justify its use, knowing that it obviates the need to travel to non-Muslim countries to learn the language?

Learning foreign languages is permissible as a communal obligation (fard kifayah) if the interests of the community depend on it. It is preferable to learn them without relocating to disbelieving countries. It is not permissible to use language learning programs if they include forbidden elements, such as the display of 'awrah (parts of the body that must be covered). However, if it is possible to bypass these forbidden elements, there is no harm in using them out of necessity. Nonetheless, it is better to abandon such programs, replace them with others, or minimize their use.
