Are the narrations true concerning some of the Salaf, such as Ali ibn Al-Husayn and Ali ibn Abdullah ibn Al-Abbas, that they used to pray a thousand rak'ahs between day and night? And is this matter natural and not miraculous? And is it true that Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah disparaged Ali ibn Abi Talib's memorization of the Qur'an? And have scholars differed on that?

We advise you to strive diligently in seeking knowledge so that you may be qualified to debate the people of innovation. Praying a thousand rak'ahs is possible and has been narrated from the righteous, but the best guidance is that of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. As for Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, compiling the Qur'an, some have narrated that he compiled it, while others have denied it. And although Al-Sha'bi mentioned that Uthman alone among the caliphs memorized the entire Qur'an, not memorizing it completely does not detract from the Companion. Some scholars mentioned that all four caliphs memorized the entire Qur'an, and the difference of opinion on this is a matter of ijtihad (independent reasoning), but their high status indicates the possibility of them having memorized it completely.
