The answer

If the student loan is for profit, it is religiously forbidden (), because studying is not among the necessities that absolutely permit borrowing with usury (riba). However, some contemporary jurists have permitted this type of loan for students who have found no permissible means to study, provided that legitimate alternatives are absent, and that the necessity is estimated according to its measure, along with striving to get out of the usurious loan once able to do so.
