What is the ruling on going with friends on a trip where it is known beforehand that they will commit forbidden acts such as listening to music, smoking, flirting with foreign women, and cursing religion? And is one who sits with them considered like them in sin, despite his attempt to avoid these abominations? And how does one atone for the sin of backbiting a Muslim woman? And should he refrain from going out with them again if they ask him to?

The companions mentioned are bad companions, and it is not appropriate to associate with them or travel with them.

One must repent to Allah for what happened regarding backbiting and attending gatherings of evil. Repentance involves regretting the action, abandoning it immediately, and resolving not to return to it.

If the backbiting did not reach the person concerned, then regret and seeking forgiveness are sufficient. However, if it reached them, or if it is impossible to reach them due to their death or distant absence, then one should seek Allah’s forgiveness, and there is no consideration for the heirs’ absolution.
