The answer

A man is permitted to marry a second wife if he is capable of being just between his two wives. There is no prerequisite cause that necessitates polygamy for it to be permissible. A husband's refusal to be intimate with his wife is not good companionship. He must respond to her if she desires it and he is able, unless there is a valid excuse. The husband must be just between his two wives regarding lodging, but not necessarily regarding sexual intercourse. However, he is not permitted to abandon sexual intercourse with one of them in order to save his strength for the other. If the husband desires intimacy but is unable to approach, the reason might be magic (sihr) or something similar. In such a case, he is advised to perform ruqyah (Islamic exorcism).
