What is the ruling on placing one's hand on the Mus'haf and swearing by it? What steps can be taken to forgive a nephew and bring him back to the right path? Is the fault with the mother or the son? And is the stage of adolescence considered an excuse for him?

Smoking is a deviation caused by negligence and bad company. Its cure lies in admonition, encouragement, and deterrence, clarifying its prohibition and the danger it poses to life, and making the son feel that he has become a man who can be relied upon. Swearing by the Mus'haf (Quran) makes an oath more emphatic and its breach more serious. Whoever breaks such an oath must pay the expiation mentioned in Surat Al-Ma'idah: 89. It is not advisable to make the son swear an oath or to hit him at this stage. Rather, she should advise him, directly or indirectly, to seek good company and to focus on important matters, and to fill his free time with beneficial activities, and to make him feel that he has become a man who bears responsibility.
