What is the ruling on saying "Madad, O Messenger of Allah" without intending to seek help or assistance, and what is the ruling on someone who says it ignorantly of its meaning?

Seeking مدد (help/aid) from the dead is a supplication to other than Allah, and it is shirk (polytheism). If the one who says it does not intend seeking aid or assistance, then what do they intend? And whoever says that while being ignorant of its meaning or ruling is excused for their ignorance until proof is established against them. We advise against preoccupation with the issue of تكفير (declaring someone an apostate), lest it open the doors to obsessive doubts.
