A Muslim should not associate with people of innovation, unless the purpose is to advise and guide them, and the Muslim possesses sufficient knowledge to do so. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "A person is upon the religion of his intimate friend, so let each of you look at whom he befriends," and "The example of a good companion and a bad companion is like that of the seller of musk and the blower of the bellows." As for one who does not feel safe from being influenced by their misguided ways, he must keep away from them.
