What are the etiquettes of contemplating the Holy Quran?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is sunnah to recite the Qur'an with deliberation and understanding, for that is the greatest purpose by which hearts are opened and illuminated, as Allah the Almighty said: "A Book We have sent down to you, full of blessings, that they may ponder over its Verses," and He said: "Do they not then ponder over the Qur'an, or are there locks upon their hearts?" Among the etiquettes of deliberation are: reflecting on the meaning, contemplating the commands and prohibitions, seeking forgiveness for shortcomings, asking Allah when encountering verses of mercy, seeking refuge when encountering verses of punishment, glorifying Allah when encountering verses of His transcendence, and supplicating when encountering verses of prayer.
