Is it obligatory to remove the "helix" piercing when performing ghusl for janabah or menstruation to ensure water reaches the ear?

It is not obligatory to remove earrings during ablution, but it is necessary to move them to allow water to reach the earlobe piercing, according to some scholars. A strong presumption that water has reached the area is sufficient. If there are no earrings, water should be made to reach the piercing as much as possible without undue effort. Some scholars are of the view that the earlobe piercing is considered an inner part of the body, and thus it is not obligatory to make water reach it.
