The estate of a person who passed away, leaving behind only a wife and three daughters, is divided as follows: The wife receives one-eighth as a prescribed share (fardhan) due to the presence of a lineal descendant (far' warith). The daughters receive two-thirds as a prescribed share. Whatever remains thereafter is returned (raddan) to the three daughters. Thus, the estate is divided into twenty-four shares: the wife receives three shares, and each daughter receives seven shares, comprising both their prescribed share and the returned portion.
