How can one deal with a person who declares their attachment to the speaker, given an age gap between them, and the speaker's fear of becoming attached to that person as well?
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, warned against excessive love for individuals and recommended moderation and balance. He indicated that attachment is a malady with several causes, including: weakness in the love of Allah, idleness, lack of knowledge, committing sins, and neglecting some duties. This malady has manifestations and signs, such as the heart being preoccupied with the beloved, eagerness to fulfill their requests, jealousy over them, frequent talk about them, and anger when they refuse to meet.
As for the ways to treat this malady, they include: seeking Allah's help, occupying time with beneficial activities, marriage, and reflecting on the harms of these relationships. To treat attachment to a specific person, it is recommended to help them with what benefits them in their religion and worldly life, reduce meeting with them, and direct them to people of knowledge. If the attachment increases and there is fear of temptation (fitnah), the relationship must be severed immediately.
