Is it permissible for a fiancée to break off her engagement to a suitor who refuses to provide her with a legitimate home in her country, and insists on temporary residence in a hotel before traveling to his foreign country, despite his providing a home for his first wife?

It is advisable to perform Istikhara (prayer for guidance) and consult with family. Delaying marriage is not recommended if a compatible suitor of good character and religious commitment is found, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "There are three things, O Ali, that you should not delay: prayer when its time is due, a funeral when it is ready, and a single woman when a suitable match is found for her." If staying in a hotel for a short period before moving to the marital home is a normal custom, then the engagement should not be broken off for this reason.
