Is the meaning of the Hadith: "Whoever conceals a Muslim, Allah will conceal him on the Day of Resurrection" the concealment of a sin?
Concealment (ستر) encompasses everything by which a Muslim might be disgraced, including sins, errors, and scandals, provided that the offender is not notorious for corruption. It is obligatory to immediately denounce the sin and prevent the perpetrator from committing it if one witnesses them in the act. As for the recommended concealment, it applies to people of good standing and those who are not known for harm or corruption. However, for those who are known for such acts, it is preferable not to conceal their actions; instead, their case should be brought before the ruler (ولي الأمر) unless there is fear of a greater harm from doing so. Concealing a Muslim's fault is commendable if it serves a benefit and does not entail harm. Thus, a person who appears upright but committed an offense is the one whose fault should be concealed.
