Is it permissible to falsely accuse someone in their religion and morals, when these accusations have negatively affected the accused and their relationship with others?

Negative assumptions about a Muslim are forbidden, based on the Almighty's saying: "O you who have believed, avoid much [negative] assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin." Even worse is slandering a Muslim and accusing him of something he did not do, based on the Almighty's saying: "And those who harm believing men and believing women for [something] other than what they have earned have certainly borne slander and a clear sin." And the Prophet's (peace be upon him) stern warning: "And whoever says about a believer something that is not true about him, Allah will make him drink from the mud of Al-Khabal until he comes out of what he said, and he will not be able to come out of it." Whoever slandered a Muslim must hasten to repent and seek forgiveness from the one he slandered, for slander is among the sins related to the rights of creation.
