How should the questioner make up for the days she did not fast after reaching puberty, and must they be consecutive? How should she pay the fidyah for them, and does it have a specific type and weight, and should she pay it as money to a charity or as food to the poor?

1. You must make up for the missed days of Ramadan. If you do not know their number, continue making up for them until you are reasonably certain that you have fulfilled your obligation.

2. Consecutive making up of days is not a condition; rather, it is permissible to make them up intermittently according to your ability, though consecutive is better.

3. If the delay in making up the days was deliberate, you owe expiation for each day. If it was due to ignorance or forgetfulness, then no expiation is upon you.

4. The amount of expiation is 750 grams of the staple food of the people of the land, and it is to be given to the poor. It is permissible to give it cooked or uncooked.

5. It is permissible to give the expiation to a trustworthy charity that will distribute it to those deserving, provided you inform them that the payment is for expiation.
