What does a Muslim do to cast off indolence in performing acts of worship?
Man is by nature lazy when it comes to arduous tasks, especially good deeds. His soul, which inclines to evil, and Satan adorn these inclinations for him, so he needs a strong motivator such as the hope of reward or the fear of punishment, along with high resolve and determined will.
Among the strongest means of overcoming laziness is seeking Allah's help, acting upon His Book and the Sunnah of His Prophet, associating with good people, and shunning bad companions. This is the remedy, along with the well-known supplication: "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from helplessness and laziness, from cowardice and old age; and I seek refuge in You from the trials of life and death, and I seek refuge in You from the torment of the grave."
