The people of knowledge are indispensable for understanding the texts of the Quran and . Scholars are beacons by which one is guided in comprehending these texts and deriving rulings from them. They understand which rulings have been abrogated and the implications of non-explicit texts. Therefore, a student of knowledge should receive knowledge from a teacher and not rely directly on books. They should first gain a deep understanding of one of the madhhabs without fanaticism, should its divergence from evidence become apparent.
