What is the relationship between a good ending, a bad ending, and supplication (Du'a)?
What is decreed for a person, whether a good or bad ending, falls into two categories: 1. What is a definitive, predetermined reality in God's knowledge; this does not change with supplication. 2. What is a suspended decree, written in the scrolls of the angels; this can be averted by supplication. This is what is mentioned in the : "Nothing repels divine decree except supplication."
Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar reconciled the two views by stating that the dispute is semantic, and that what is in God's knowledge does not change. What appears to people, or is known by the guardian angels and those entrusted with a person, is what allows for change, erasure, and affirmation through supplication.
