Does the great reward cease for one who went to the mosque without performing ablution or whose ablution became invalid on the way?

Going to the mosque with ritual purity (tahara) is better than going without it, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Whoever purifies himself in his house, then goes out to one of the houses of Allah to fulfill one of the obligations of Allah, one of his steps will erase a sin, and the other will raise a degree." And whoever goes out without purification misses this virtue. This is also supported by the hadith: "Whoever leaves his house purified for an obligatory prayer, his reward is like the reward of a pilgrim in ihram." So, purifying oneself for prayer is akin to assuming ihram for Hajj, and whoever is purified will have a superior reward. And whoever purifies himself in his house then unintentionally loses his purity on his way to the mosque may still attain this virtue due to his intention and his doing what was within his capacity. For whoever intends good and does what is within his power but is unable to complete it, he will have the reward of one who has accomplished it.
