How long did Prophet Yunus (Jonah) stay in the belly of the whale, how did he live there, how did he eat and drink, and what are the evidences for that from the Qur’an and Sunnah?

The story of Yunus (peace be upon him) is mentioned in the Holy Quran for us to draw lessons from it. There is no explicit text in the Quran or Sunnah regarding the duration of his stay in the whale's belly, or his food and drink. All that has been reported are varying and differing statements about the duration of his stay without evidence. It is better to turn away from such details and occupy oneself with what is beneficial in religion.
