How can excessive joking cause embarrassment in the workplace, and what are the ways to overcome that?

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to jest, but he never spoke anything but the truth. His jesting was infrequent and intended to bring cheer. Excessive jesting harms its practitioner, diminishes his prestige, and may cause him to fall in the esteem of others. Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz said: "Beware of jesting, for it leads to indecency and breeds resentment." It is advisable to reduce jesting and instead increase recitation of the Qur'an, remembrance of Allah, and reading beneficial books. Jesting is permissible as long as it does not harm others. Harming believers is a reprehensible act, as Allah the Almighty says: (And those who annoy believing men and believing women undeservedly, bear on themselves a calumny and a manifest sin).
