Should a worshiper secretly invoke blessings upon our master Muhammad when hearing "صلى على محمد" (Peace be upon Muhammad) from a phone during prayer?
The Shari'ah encourages sending blessings upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, when he is mentioned. However, a person performing prayer is not addressed by this, because prayer is an occupation that diverts one from everything happening around them. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, clarified this by saying: "Indeed, there is an occupation in prayer." Based on this, it is not permissible for a worshiper to interact with remembrances or reminders to send blessings upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, from a mobile device. Although the preponderant opinion is that prayer is not invalidated by this, refraining from it is better to avoid the disagreement of those who consider the prayer void by it.
