Is the feeling of languor in worship and loss of desire for acts of obedience after a period of religious activity attributable to envy?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Lethargy in worship after having drawn close to Allah may be a result of overdoing it and overburdening oneself. For every action, there is a period of activity and a period of lethargy, and the best of deeds are those done consistently, even if they are few.

If the lethargy occurs while maintaining the obligatory acts and being moderate in the supererogatory ones, then this is good, and one should continue with it without overburdening oneself. However, if the lethargy leads to sins and abandoning obligatory acts, then this is destruction.

It is advised to observe the obligatory duties and obligations perfectly, to consistently perform the supererogatory acts that one can commit to without strain, and to stay away from sins and bad company.
