Did the Prophet (peace be upon him) say: "Avoid Ethiopia"?
The Hadith with the wording: "Leave the Abyssinians as long as they leave you alone," was graded Hasan by Al-Albani, and narrated by four Companions. It was transmitted by Abu Dawud, Ahmad, Al-Bazzar, and Al-Hakim through the chain of Zuhair bin Muhammad, from Musa bin Jubair, from Abu Umamah bin Sahl bin Hunaif, from Abdullah bin Amr, from the Prophet (peace be upon him) who said: "Leave the Abyssinians as long as they leave you alone, for indeed, no one will extract the treasure of the Kaaba except the Dhu al-Suwaiqatain from Abyssinia." And in Sunan Abi Dawud, from a man among the Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him), from the Prophet (peace be upon him) that he said: "Leave the Abyssinians as long as they leave you, and leave the Turks as long as they leave you."
