The first mosque built in Islam is Quba Mosque, for it was the first mosque where the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, prayed with his companions openly in congregation. It was also the first mosque built for the general Muslim community and the first mosque founded after the prophethood. This primacy is specific to public mosques; otherwise, Abu Bakr had founded a mosque in his house in Mecca, and the Companions had established mosques in Medina before the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, arrived.
