How can the heart be reformed after long years of corruption so that good deeds may bear fruit within it?

The questioner is advised to supplicate frequently and humble themselves before Allah to renew faith in the heart, citing the hadith: "Indeed, faith wears out in the inner self of one of you, just as a garment wears out, so ask Allah Almighty to renew faith in your hearts." Emphasis is placed on the importance of rectifying the heart and filling it with humility and the fear of Allah. They are also advised not to abandon their family, but rather to invite them to goodness and endure their harm, citing the hadith: "The believer who mixes with people and endures their harm is better than the one who does not mix with people and does not endure their harm." Al-Khattabi is quoted as saying: "So be with people in goodness, and be separate from them in evil, and seek to be among them as a witness yet absent, and as one knowledgeable yet ignorant."
