Why do Saudi scholars see themselves as following the methodology of the Righteous Predecessors, while the people of the Maghreb see themselves as Sufis, even though what the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, was sent with is the worship of the One, Unique God?

The Muslim is commanded to worship Allah alone, according to what He has legislated through the tongue of His Prophet, not through innovations. The righteous predecessors applied this, so there is no fault in one who says: "We are upon what the righteous predecessors were upon," because they are the Companions, the Tabi'un, the Tabi' Tabi'in, and those who followed their methodology. As for affiliation with Sufism, it contains many dangers, for various groups of innovators and heretics have entered it, and it has become diverse groups and sects, with the fewest among them being close to the Sunnah. The prevalent situation among most Sufis today is opposition to the Sunnah and the introduction of new matters into the religion, which is a serious matter. It suffices in clarifying this to mention the words of Allah the Almighty: "And let those who oppose the Messenger's command beware, lest a trial afflict them or there befall them a painful punishment" (An-Nur: 63). So, let the Muslim beware of affiliating with them.
