Is it obligatory to return a cross found in a purchased car to its previous owner?

If the cross contains valuable metal, its metallic value belongs to its owner and must be returned to him. However, the cross must be broken to denounce evil, as it symbolizes a false belief that Christ was crucified. Allah Almighty said: "And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, "would not leave anything in his house containing crosses without breaking it." If it is possible to break the cross without causing harm, it must be broken and then given back to its owner in its broken state if it has material value; otherwise, the owner is not owed anything.
