What is the ruling on a wife who insults her husband by saying, "You are not a man" and "I do not love you," prefers her sister's husband over him, obeys her mother and sister and him, goes out without his permission, and curses him in front of people, knowing that they have a daughter, she is pregnant, he lives with his parents, and his financial situation is weak?

Marital life is based on good companionship and the wife's obedience to her husband. Wives obey their husbands in what is right. Men have authority over women because Allah has favored some over others and because they spend [on them]. The Sharia has greatly emphasized the husband's rights over his wife. Therefore, her speaking to him in a bad manner and her leaving without his permission are wrong and demonstrate ignorance of the husband's rights and bad character. The husband must teach her matters of her religion, admonish her, forsake her in bed, and strike her. If she obeys, then there is no cause against her. If the insubordination (nushooz) continues, then an arbiter from his family and an arbiter from her family should be sent. If the means of reconciliation are not effective, then divorce is the last stage of treatment. It is the wife's right to have a separate dwelling, and the husband must spend on his family and not fall short in earning.
