Is it impermissible for the maternal uncle, who used to practice sorcery, to ask the questioner’s husband to go to the mosque and recite a book of incantations (awrad) for a week in order to see “something good”?

It is permissible to shun sorcerers if there is fear of their harm or being influenced by their falsehood. It is legislated to communicate with them if it is possible to advise them. It is forbidden to undertake a journey to any place other than the Three Mosques. It is not permissible to remain in a place where abominations are committed, or to go to a grave to ask for a need. The traditional supplications (awrad) are legislated, but specifying their recitation for a week for a particular need without evidence is an additive innovation (bid'ah idafiyyah). One must distance oneself from supplications with unclear meanings or those that involve seeking aid from other than Allah.
