How authentic is the Hadith: "Consult your heart, even if people give you a different opinion"?

The Hadith "Consult your heart" is deemed good by scholars, and its meaning is that righteousness is that which reassures the soul, while sin is that which wavers in the chest and causes hesitation, even if people give a different opinion. Some people misunderstand this Hadith, using it to justify forbidden acts by following their desires, whereas the intention is that if a believer with a sound heart consults someone and is given a ruling, but his soul is not reassured, then he should abandon it. Therefore, acting upon this Hadith is specific to those with sound hearts, not those with sick hearts that might permit grave sins.
