Is an actual resumption of marital relations—without penetration—considered a return of the wife in the case of a revocable divorce, or does it require a new marriage contract?

It was previously explained that a revocable return (rajʿah) occurs through intercourse or its preliminaries, whether with the intention of rajʿah or without it, and this view validates the current rajʿah. If the wife is still within her waiting period (ʿiddah), she can be taken back verbally. If the waiting period has ended, renewing the marriage contract is more prudent. The beginning of menstruation is marked by the emission of blood; the default state is purity unless blood is discharged, because "certainty is not removed by doubt."
