Is it permissible to give donations to deviant sects—like the Sufis—if they will spend it on charitable causes, such as helping the poor or establishing schools for teaching the Qur’an?

Islam encourages charity due to its immense reward, and spending should be directed towards the People of the Sunnah and الجماعة (Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah), especially those who are upright and pious. The general principle is that the owner of the wealth distributes his charity himself, but it is permissible for him to appoint a trustworthy individual or a charitable organization that is knowledgeable about the channels of zakat. This entity must adhere to the Sunnah and avoid innovation (bid'ah). If it is not possible to deliver the charity to the People of the Sunnah, it is permissible to give it to someone who holds an innovation, provided their trustworthiness is established and they do not use the money to spread their innovation.
