Does giving a female beggar breakfast while she is eating before the Adhan count as breaking one's fast or feeding a needy person?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, desired to feed those who are fasting, saying: "Whoever feeds a fasting person will have a reward like theirs, without diminishing anything from the reward of the fasting person." Feeding a fasting person means providing them with food at their breaking of the fast. If the woman is indeed fasting, then feeding her is considered breaking the fast for a fasting person; otherwise, it is feeding a needy person. Feeding the hungry and the beggar has a great reward, as Allah Almighty says: "And those in whose wealth there is a recognized right, for the petitioner and the deprived," and His saying: "And as for the beggar, do not repel him." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Any believer who feeds a believer when they are hungry, Allah will feed them on the Day of Resurrection from the fruits of Paradise."
