How can one make up for the missed prayers that have accumulated over the years, the exact number of which is unknown?

It is obligatory for you to make up the missed prayers. Your not knowing their number does not waive the obligation to make them up. You can refer to Fatwa No. 142278 and the related fatwas for information on how someone who does not know the number of missed prayers should make them up.
