What should a congregant do if the imam makes a mistake regarding the proper place for the prostration of forgetfulness (before or after the salām), and should he follow him or prostrate in the correct place?

The congregant follows his Imam in the prostrations of forgetfulness (sujood al-sahw), whether the Imam prostrates before the salaam or after it. His following is obligatory because of the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Indeed, the Imam was appointed to be followed."
