What is the methodology that should be followed in light of the contradiction between the opinions of preachers and the different schools of thought, and how can one reconcile commitment to religion with dealing with social criticism?

Salafism is the adherence to the righteous predecessors (Salaf) among the noble Companions and those who followed them in goodness, in understanding the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger, and in applying them both. Celebrating the Prophet's birthday (Mawlid) is not from the guidance of the Salaf; rather, it is an innovated matter. More dangerous than that is celebrating the holidays of non-Muslims, such as Christmas. A Muslim should be gentle with those who differ with him, be lenient, and show good character towards them, for this is from the guidance of the righteous Salaf.
