If a woman experiences intermittent, light bleeding due to birth control pills, knowing that her usual period was 5 or 6 days, but the bleeding lasted 8 days, and then recurred 15 days after purification, should she pray and fast?

Abortion is not permissible except out of a legal necessity. The blood discharged due to abortion is of two types: nifas blood (postnatal bleeding) if human features have appeared in the fetus (after 42 nights of pregnancy), and istihadah blood (irregular bleeding) if the fetus is discharged before formation.

We advise against using birth control pills except out of necessity, with the husband's permission, and after consulting a female doctor.

The duration of menstrual bleeding may increase, and as long as it is within fifteen days, it is considered menstruation. If the bleeding exceeds fifteen days, it is istihadah blood. Intercourse is permissible after purification and ghusl within the fifteen days, but if bleeding returns after intercourse, one must stop. The return of bleeding after fifteen days of purity is considered a new menstrual period.
