What is the ruling on wearing a wedding ring if the intention is to identify the woman as married, and what should be done if the husband refuses to take it off?

The basic ruling is that it is permissible for women to wear a ring (dublah) or a finger-ring (khatam) made of gold, silver, or other jewels. However, the engagement ring (dublat al-khutubah) or wedding ring has no basis in Islamic law. It is well-known that it is a custom of non-Muslims, so it should be avoided. If the husband refuses to take it off, there is no harm in wearing it, as long as one does not believe it brings love or that removing it brings bad luck, or intend to imitate non-Muslims.
