Al-Busiri and Al-Diya Al-Maqdisi narrated a report from Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said to her father, Umar ibn Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him): "What prevents you from wearing softer clothes and eating more delicious food?" Umar replied to her: "I will put you to the test with yourself. Do you not know what hardships the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) endured in his life?" And he reminded her of the Prophet's and Abu Bakr's condition, saying: "By Allah, I would share with them a life as hard as theirs, so that perhaps I may attain with them their comfortable life." This report was also narrated by Ishaq ibn Rahawayh, Al-Nasa'i in Al-Kubra, and Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah. A study by Abdulsalam Aal Isa confirmed the authenticity of the origin of this report, and that Umar rejected his daughter's words and reproached her, reminding her of the Prophet's condition.
