Is it permissible to say "Allah (alone) is sufficient for me, and He is the best Disposer of affairs" upon hearing the news of the death of a relative or friend, knowing that what is customary in such situations is to say "Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return"?

It is prescribed for one afflicted by a calamity to recite, "Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return." It is also permissible for him to remember Allah with any remembrance he wishes, for the remembrance of Allah comforts and reassures hearts, as Allah the Almighty said: "Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured." There is no harm for a Muslim to say, "Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs," when afflicted by a calamity, for it is a remembrance that encompasses entrusting affairs to Allah, seeking refuge in Him, and trusting Him. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, guided those overwhelmed by an affair to it. The most virtuous and complete in reward is the recitation of "Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return," but there is no disapproval for one who says, "Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs," when afflicted by a calamity.
