Is it permissible to vow to name a male child Muhammad for the purpose of conceiving a male?

This is incorrect, for vows do not affect predestined matters, and desires are attained through supplication; because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade making vows and said: "Indeed, it does not avert anything, but rather it is used to extract from the miserly."
